What is Carla AI?

Carla is Country Navigator's AI coach and platform guide. You can find her on your dashboard, ready to help you with cultural questions or set up personalized coaching sessions. Carla is also available as part of the "My Team Coach" tool, and she powers the "AI Country Expert" and "CultureFlex" tools behind the scenes.

Is Carla the same as ChatGPT?

No. Carla is a specialized cultural AI, trained on Country Navigator's extensive cultural datasets. Carla does not answer generic questions or help with topics outside of culture. Carla has been compared to ChatGPT on cultural questions and always comes out on top. 

Is my chat with Carla anonymous?

Yes, your chat with Carla is anonymous. This means nobody ever knows exactly who you are when you are chatting to Carla because your email address, name and user ID are not attached to your conversation. Your conversation is given a temporary, random ID and that's it. If you choose to share personal information with Carla, however, this information can be used to identify you - so be mindful of what you choose to share in chat.

Can my company read my chats with Carla?

No. Your chats with Carla are not accessible by your company or your administrators. However, a small number of Country Navigator employees can read your conversations with Carla as part of random spot checks to improve Carla's responses. 

Is my chat used to train Carla?

No. We never directly feed your chats into Carla's training material, nor is your chat ever used to improve base AI models. However, we do periodically review chats and manually tweak Carla's behaviour as a result of the review.

Does Carla have access to my colleagues' profiles?

Currently Carla does not have access to your colleagues' profiles, even if you have shared profiles with one another using the "Connections" feature. Carla only has access to your profile. This will change in an upcoming platform release - stay tuned.

Can I save my chats?

Currently there is no way to save your chats. Once you clear your chat using the icon in the top right, your chat is gone forever. This will change in an upcoming platform release - stay tuned. 

Can I delete my chat history?

You can delete your chat history by clicking the icon in the top right. Your chat remains saved anonymously for 6 months after clearing it in this way before it is permanently removed.

What is Carla Team Coach?

Carla Team Coach is a special version of Carla available in the "My Team Coach" area of the platform.  Here, Carla acts as a coach not just for you personally, but for your entire team. Carla has access to the team's collective Worldprism profile and can provide advice on how to improve performance.

Are my chats with Carla Team Coach shared with the rest of my team?

No. Your chats are confidential and are not shared with other members of the team or your organization. 

Does Carla have access to individual team members' profiles?

No. Carla only has access to the aggregated team profile and your individual profile. For example, she knows the team has 3 people who are very task-oriented and 2 that are very relationship-oriented, and that you are one of the relationship-oriented ones. However, she does not know who the other 4 people are.

What is Carla AI?

Carla is Country Navigator's AI coach and platform guide. Carla AI powers the core Carla module found on users' dashboards and the Carla page (/carla), the Team Coach and Insights in the "My Team Coach" section, the AI Country Experts in the "Country Guides" section and CultureFlex, the skill assessment tool. 

How is Carla trained?

Carla is trained on Country Navigator’s award-winning content and the insights of over 200 cultural experts, along with core fine-tuning on the Worldprism and CultureFlex models which inform all her behaviour and responses. 

Does Carla use ChatGPT?

No. Carla currently uses Claude 3.5 Sonnet (Anthropic) as a base model, and is then fine-tuned and trained using techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation to create a specialized cultural AI tool.

Can Carla AI be integrated into our internal tools?

Yes. Carla AI can be integrated into internal tools for easy access and real-time advice. Carla can be integrated into tools like Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, email services and standalone widgets for your internal websites or intranet. Please reach out to us for more information on these integrations.

Can users share confidential information with Carla?

Yes. We do not have blockers or limitations on what users can share or send to Carla. However, as part of our periodic quality reviews, we check for sensitive or confidential data and remove it manually. We encourage all users to read these FAQs and the Terms of Service when using Carla, both of which are linked directly from the disclaimer on every page.

Where are user chats stored?

Carla is currently powered by an EU-based GDPR-compliant third-party and uses the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model from Anthropic. Anthropic does not store user chats. User chats are currently stored anonymously in the third-party EU servers for 6 months, after which they are removed by our data retention policy. An upcoming update to Carla will migrate chat storage to our own servers, removing the third-party storage.

How long are user chats stored for?

User chats are retained anonymously for 6 months. 

How does Country Navigator manage risk with Carla?

We take great care to monitor the AI landscape and ensure our AI tools and services are fully risk-managed. Carla is monitored for unexpected behaviour and manual intervention is possible if required. All updates to Carla go through a risk assessment and review, and are thoroughly tested by our AI-specific quality assurance protocols.

How often does Country Navigator update Carla?

We update Carla's training material whenever substantial changes are made to content or the platform. We check for updates weekly and apply them instantly. Changes to Carla's core programming and behaviour are made alongside major platform releases, or based on the findings of our monthly reviews.

Can Country Navigator intervene in chats?

It is possible for Country Navigator employees to manually step in to a chat if required. This is only used in the event of spam or abuse. 

How do you validate the quality of Carla's responses?

We test Carla's responses against a range of criteria, including validation from cultural experts and cross-testing with other generic AI models. We have extensive evidence of comparative testing against GPT, Claude and Gemini models available in our blogs and on request. 

Who has access to user chats?

A small number of Country Navigator employees (based on the principle of least priviledge) have access to review and monitor chats with Carla. User information is not attached to conversations, therefore employees are not able to know who the user is nor what company they are from. 

What information is available about our users' use of Carla?

Currently, we have chosen to keep chats with Carla completely anonymous. Therefore, we are unable to provide any information regarding the content of user chats to your organization as we do not identify which organization the user is from in a chat. We do, however, provide information on how long your users are spending on Carla and other AI tools in the Reports and Analytics sections available to Admins. 

Are users' chats used to train AI models?

No. Users' chats are not used to train base models or fed directly into Carla's training material. Country Navigator employees review chats with Carla periodically and make manual improvements based on their findings.

Does Carla use third party models or services?

Carla is powered by an EU-based third party tool for training and managing chats. This is subject to change in an upcoming update. Carla is currently based on Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet model.

Does any user data get shared with third parties?

No personal data is ever shared with third parties unless the user themselves types and sends personal information in a message to Carla.

Are there restrictions on what Carla can be used for?

Yes. These are outline in our Terms of Service.
