What are the 9 cultural dimensions?

Your Worldprism™ profile shows where you sit across 9 cultural dimensions. Each one is a pair of contrasting preferences, and they're grouped into three areas.

Relating: how you interact with others

  • Task / Relationship: do you build trust by delivering results, or does rapport need to come first?
  • Explicit / Implicit: do you say exactly what you mean, or let context and subtext carry the message?
  • Individual / Group: do you see yourself mainly as an individual contributor, or as part of a group?

Regulating: how you interact with processes

  • Risk-Taking / Risk-Avoiding: do you act despite uncertainty, or wait until the conditions feel right?
  • Tight / Loose: do you prefer clear structure and agreed rules, or the flexibility to adapt as things unfold?
  • Shared / Concentrated: do you believe decisions work best when many people are involved, or when responsibility sits with a few?

Reasoning: how you interact with problems

  • Linear / Circular: do you reach conclusions step by step, or by exploring different perspectives first?
  • Facts / Thinking: do you trust observable evidence most, or the ideas and principles that help explain it?
  • Simple / Complex: do you focus on the essential point, or consider the wider picture before deciding?

How your profile shows each dimension

For each dimension, your profile shows which side you lean toward, and whether that lean is slight, moderate or strong. For example, you might see Moderate Task or Strong Relationship. Neither side is better than the other: your profile also includes tips on making the most of your style, and on flexing toward the other side when you need to.
